GRAYSON, KY. APRIL 2017. "Looking after my health isn't very newsworthy," says Rep. Jill York.

"But the reality of recuperation from abdominal surgery means I'll be sidelined for a few days while the healing process gets underway."

York underwent surgery on April 18, 2017 for removal of masses first discovered in October 2016.

"I've been very fortunate that all my indicators pointed toward good outcomes. The decision I made to wait until the legislative session had ended for the procedure wouldn't have been possible otherwise," she said.

York noted that her family health history played a large role in the choices she made concerning her illness. Her mother and one grandmother both died from cancer. "I have to be more vigilant and pro-active because of them."

Still, she isn't looking forward to the curtailed activity that comes with recovery. "I really hate that I will be missing some great events over the next few weeks," she admitted. "It's only been three days and I'm already anxious to get back to my routine and action."
